Technical Scrum Master – Job Description
Role Summary
The Technical Scrum Master is responsible for leading Agile ceremonies, removing impediments, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the engineering team follows Scrum principles effectively. This role requires strong technical understanding to collaborate closely with developers, architects, and product stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Scrum & Agile Leadership
- Facilitate all core Scrum ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Retrospectives).
- Coach team members on Agile best practices and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the team follows Scrum processes and maintains sprint discipline.
Technical Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering teams to understand technical dependencies, architecture, and development workflows.
- Help break down epics into technical user stories and refine backlog with the Product Owner.
- Identify technical risks, blockers, and coordinate with DevOps/QA/Infrastructure teams for resolution.
Project & Delivery Management
- Own sprint planning, velocity tracking, burndown charts, and release planning.
- Monitor team capacity and ensure realistic sprint commitments.
- Remove obstacles to the team’s progress and escalate issues as needed.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with Product Owner to prioritize backlog and align with business goals.
- Communicate sprint progress, risks, and timelines to leadership and stakeholders.
- Ensure delivery transparency through dashboards, reports, and metrics.
Quality & Process Improvement
- Promote engineering best practices (CI/CD, automation, code reviews, DevOps culture).
- Drive continuous improvement through data-driven insights.
- Implement Agile maturity assessments and process optimization.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in software development or technical project management.
- 2+ years experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach.
- Strong understanding of SDLC, microservices, APIs, cloud technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP).
- Proficiency with tools like Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, Git, Jenkins.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
- Certification preferred: CSM, PSM I/II, SAFe SM, Agile Coach, PMI-ACP.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with DevOps pipelines and CI/CD tools.
- Familiarity with Agile at scale (SAFe, LeSS, Nexus).
- Experience coordinating multiple Scrum teams.
- Knowledge of test automation and QA processes.
